Service Learning
Students will have a choice between writing a letter to their Congressperson about immigration issues, citing information we have learned over the course of the unit, OR volunteering at Hope for San Diego, a local organization that works with refugees and migrants in San Diego county.
VAPA
Consumptive: Angel Island poetry. Students will read, annotate, explicate, and discuss poetry written on the walls of the Angel Island detention centers by Asian immigrants to the US in the 1910’s - 1940’s.
Productive: In the final assessment, students will present art (dance, music, poetry, etc.) from their culture, and explain its significance in their family, community, culture, region, etc.
